Traditional Chinese acupuncture and Korean Saam
acupuncture
For me the most important event was becoming acquainted with the
Saam acupuncture. In seeking a more efficient acupuncture I tried applying
head, hand, ear and other types of new acu- puncture besides the traditional
Chinese acupuncture in my clinic. But after having become acquainted with
the Saam acupuncture, a traditional Korean acupuncture, I use only it, and have
left behind all other acupunctures.
Traditional Chinese acupuncture evolved during thousands of years in China, Korea, Japan
and other neighboring countries and accumulated its many theories and
experience; that is why it show its amazing effects on many diseases.
If this
Chinese acupuncture weren't effective, it would have already disappeared from
the historic scene. So this acupuncture with the power to grow is handed down
and today is spreading in the world, because it does indeed have a clear and
undeniable curing effect.
But in fact, many of the doctors using the Saam acupuncture underestimate
traditional Chinese acu- puncture. That could be caused by their pride in
the treatment method that they use. However, I think that it is more likely
caused by the outstanding curative efficiency of the Saam acupuncture compared
to the Chinese acupuncture and the profound theoretical system of the Saam
acupuncture based on the theory of the five elements. One can't say uniformly,
but traditional acupuncture can be easily learned by anyone who knows the
acupuncture points and meridians. It is, after all, easy to stick needles
mainly into the head for headache and mainly into the leg for leg pain.
We already know that traditional Chinese acupuncture
is based on the meridian theory. So to practice acupuncture one must learn not
only about the meridian theory, but also about the right locations of many
points found dispersed all over the body. It is important to memorize also all
the specific and diverse curative effects of the points. The curative effects
were ordered, analyzed and inductively formed by later generations of doctors
as a result of their experience accumulated over a long period of time.
In the beginning one point had only one or two curative effects, but with time
other curative effects were added and accumulated. Now there are many
single points with dozens of curative effects.
It is really hard to memorize all of the curative effects of these points.
Besides that it is imperative to memorize each acupuncture prescription for
very many diseases. Acupuncture prescriptions about diseases based on various
theories are combined and consist of at least three or four, sometimes dozens
of points.
I still shudder to remember that during my university studies I had to work
very hard to memorize for the exams the location and curative effects of
innumerable points. Maybe because of that, it seemed to me that acupuncturology
is one of the most difficult subjects of study.
He who can't remember all of this due to his amnesia must practice acupuncture
always consulting a book. In some countries that kind of doctor is tauntingly
called a "cookbook acupuncturist".
But the Saam Acupuncture is completely different from the traditional acupuncture
which requires unconditional memorizing. Saam is a Korean known as a Buddhist
monk of about four hundred years ago, who launched his unique acupuncture.
The Saam acupuncture uses only sixty points located below the joints of the
four members. So it is sufficient to memorize only their locations. That is
much less difficult than memorizing more than 360 main points, vessel meridian
points, and extra points. Besides, in general acupuncture, it is necessary to
memorize all the curative effects of each point, but in the Saam acupuncture it
isn't necessary even to memorize the respective curative effects of the sixty
points.
In the Saam acupuncture, there is no meaning to the idea that
some point is effective for some disease. This means that the Saam acupuncture
is founded on a different cure mechanism than the general acupuncture.
To learn about constitutional acupuncture, it is necessary to first learn
about Saam acupuncture, and to learn about Saam acupuncture it is
necessary to understand the five transport points and the five elements.
