Introduction

"You have an impetuous temperament,"

I said, silently taking the pulse of a sixty-two year old patient.

"Huh? How did you know?  Does the pulse show the temperament too?"

Her son, standing nearby, exclaimed in surprise.

"Of course, and not only the temperament. Your mother has a great internal warmth and drinks cold water even in severe winter.  And she has weak kidneys and bladder from birth."

"No one can curtail my mother's impetuous temperament. One of her kidneys was operated on ten years ago, and nowadays she doesn't sleep well because of having to urinate frequently at night. Now it's clear that she has had these problems since birth."

If a bystander were to hear the conversation with that patient, he might look at me not as a doctor who heals people, but as a practitioner of telepathy or physiognomy, or someone who heals by some mysterious magical power. But it is not any kind of sorcery to learn a patient's general character and physiological and pathological state from taking the pulse, nor is it very difficult for students of constitutional medicine.  It's more surprising, that my constitutional acupuncture based on constitutional medical science can have unimaginably miraculous effect compared to classical acupuncture known as Chinese acupuncture.

The above-mentioned patient's left shoulder hurt so much that she couldn't lift her left arm, nor sleep at night, due to the pain.  But, right after one of my acupuncture treatments, she could easily lift her arm.  Usually for such a patient it would take more than two weeks of general acupuncture treatments, or by Western medical treatments, even longer.  The patient was completely well after only five of my treatments.

Let me give some examples.

There was a patient about 50 years old. His right eyebrow completely covered his eye in two or three days because of a problem with the optic nerve. His black pupil was aimed to the side as though he were wall-eyed and suddenly he was seeing double. He went to famous eye doctors one after another, and received the recommendation of an operation. Finally, he came to me.
One treatment from me was enough to lift his eyebrow halfway by the next day.  After four or five days of treatments, his eyebrow was completely healed, and in the seventh day his pupil returned to its normal position and he could see normally again.

There was a sixty-year-old patient who had cancer of the colon. About five months after the operation he found that he couldn't swallow food through his throat, or even drink water. A hole was made in his belly to allow nutrition to enter.  He was in that state when he visited me. After just one treatment from me he began to sip juice or milk through the throat, and after one week of treatment, he could drink anything and eat porridge.  After ten days, he could eat anything.

A fifty-year-old patient suffered from constant noise in his ears. He tried any way he could to find a cure, and visited many clinics, but in vane.  But after one treatment from me, the noise abated to half its former level, and in one week he was completely cured.

A youth about 20 years old came to me supported on the shoulders of friends after suddenly twisting the lumbar region of his back.  His pain was so great that he could not even get himself into bed. However, one acupuncture treatment from me was enough that he could get himself out of bed, and even bend his waist forward and backward.  The patient himself could hardly believe the effect of the treatment. He returned on his own, admired by the friends who had helped him.

There was also a patient who suffered terrible headaches during more than two weeks and regularly visited a Western-style medical clinic, but the pain persisted.  But after just one acupuncture treatment, the pain disappeared.  Another patient with constant hiccups for two days was freed from that after one acupuncture treatment. A patient's sleep was interrupted by the need to urinate four times a night. After one acupuncture treatment he awoke only once at night to urinate, and was completely healed after five days of treatments.

These examples are innumerable.

All of these successful healings are attributable not to my healing competence, but to the seemingly miraculous effects of the unique constitutional medicine and constitutional acupuncture based on Sa-am acupuncture created by outstanding Korean doctors.

Up till now, acupuncture is undoubtedly thought of as only the Chinese acupuncture based on the traditional Chinese medicine. But you will now encounter in this book a new and amazing medical system which you might not have heard of before.

The unique Korean constitutional medicine originated from the traditional Chinese medicine, but was transformed into a new medical system based on a completely different theory. This is a cultural heritage that Korea can proudly show to the rest of the world along with its traditional martial art Taekwondo.

This site will show not only the differences between Chinese medicine inherited from ancient China and the traditional Korean medicine which specifically evolved in Korea, but also how the Korean medicine criticizes and applies various ancient Chinese theories. I believe that it may instigate a drastic change in the reader's knowledge of modern Asian medical theory and acupuncture, an alternative to the much better known Chinese model.
